President Mnangagwa has commissioned Holy-Cross Dam, an agro-innovation and rural industrialisation project in Chirumhanzu, Midlands Province.

The project is set to transform the local community and surrounding areas through the provision of irrigation water, among other benefits.

The dam collapsed in 2007 due to heavy rains and had been defunct since then.

It was then reconstructed after Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbra Rwodzi, who is the local Member of Parliament, mobilised resources.

President Mnangagwa toured the dam, a thriving wheat irrigation project, a fishery, and an ecotourism and recreation facility established by the community in collaboration with tertiary institutions.

The community has collaborated with Midlands State University, Chinhoyi University of Technology and Great Zimbabwe University, Masvingo Polytechnic College and Finealt Engineering in line with Education 5.0.

In a brief interview soon after touring the various projects, President Mnangagwa said it is pleasing to note that the projects are community-driven.

“The construction of such projects, particularly in Chirumanzu, is the best way to honour nationalists like Leopold Takawira who were among those that pioneered the liberation struggle,” said President Mnangagwa.
