True to his word, President Mnangagwa has delivered on his 2018 election manifesto dubbed; “The People’s Manifesto 2018” on the back of cross-cutting reforms and policies that have ushered the country into a new dawn and new heights.
The manifesto had five important pillars; Unite, Fight Corruption, Develop, Re-engage and Create Jobs. Suffice to say the Second Republic has delivered on all of these.
President Mnangagwa has managed to unite the people of Zimbabwe and re-directed the country’s focus on the current development trajectory.
The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission was fully capacitated by the Second Republic and has subsequently been executing its constitutional mandate in dealing with pre and post-independence conflict issues. Zanu PF’s delivery on this promise has enabled national healing and national consensus building.
“Unity forms a firm basis and foundation for a conducive environment for fulfilling the people’s aspirations,” reads the ruling party’s 2018 election manifesto.
On the corruption front, President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF Government have seen to it that the vice is effectively dealt with and this has been evident and undeniable.
Millions of United States dollars worth of ill-gotten wealth including cash and assets have been seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) at the President’s instigation.
His no nonsense stance has seen a number of high-profile arrests and dismissals from posts of power, which only serves to show the Second Republic’s seriousness about combating graft across the country.
ZACC has also been capacitated and has since begun decentralisation of its offices to provinces across the country.
Strides are being made towards the creation of a corruption free environment in both the private and public sectors.
The country’s current development trajectory cannot be denied and is evident for all to see.
In the agriculture sector, records continue to be broken and targets surpassed, as the country has achieved self-sufficiency. Dam infrastructure has been built and where necessary rehabilitated and all these efforts have seen the country’s development as it heads closer to retaining its bread basket status.
The country’s economy continues to grow on account of sound policies instituted by the Second Republic, all this is true to its 2018 election manifesto.
Still on the development front, President Mnangagwa promised the rehabilitation and construction of critical infrastructure and he has delivered, evidenced by the roads that have been constructed and rehabilitated, the dams that have been built, expansion of Hwange’s units 7 and 8, construction of schools, capacitation of the mining sector, only to name a few.
Truly, President Mnangagwa and his administration have left no one and no place behind.
Zimbabwe has been opened for business and has gained credibility on the global stage under the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement policy, as promised.
The country’s diplomatic offensive has seen relations with formerly hostile countries thaw, and new relations have been built and cemented with countries across the diplomatic divide as Zimbabwe is “a friend to all and enemy to none”.
Local, regional and international partnerships have been engaged and re-engaged leading to the mending of strained relations, while also strengthening existing ones and creating new friendships.
As promised, Zimbabwe also re-engaged its international creditors under the auspices of the high-level structured debt resolution and arrears clearance platform, which has seen confidence in Zimbabwe increase across the diplomatic community.
On the jobs creation front, the country has witnessed an increase in job opportunities in the agricultural, manufacturing, mining, tourism and services sectors, at the back of sound policies instituted by the Second Republic under the “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” mantra.
The country has witnessed an increase in Foreign Direct Investments as well as the Diaspora’s involvement in the country’s development through remittances which have so far this year reached at least US$420 million.
“Going forward, the party’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” strategy, complemented by improved ease and cost of doing business reforms as well as its commitment to unity, fighting corruption, re-engagement, development and job creations, will transform the livelihoods of the people,” reads the ruling party’s 2018 Manifesto.
In the last five years, President Mnangagwa’s priority areas namely peace and security; freedom and democracy; economic and public sector reforms; domestic and foreign investment attraction; creation of jobs; mainstreaming of the youth and women in all economic sectors; macroeconomic and financial sector stability; financial inclusion; consolidating land ownership and security; food and nutrition security; increasing production and productivity; value addition and beneficiation; increasing exports; infrastructure development and industrialisation; international trade; tourism; transport; and communications; human capital development; health delivery; housing as well as international and regional cooperation have all been acted upon.
“The Zanu PF party under the New Dispensation will restore our dignity and transform the lievlihoods of our people.
“This will be achieved through effective, consistent and pragmatic implementation of the various programmes, projects and reforms articulated in this 2018 People’s Manifesto,” said President Mnangagwa in the Manifesto.
Surely, President Mnangagwa has been a man of his word and meant business in the last five years.
