THE Second Republic holds cleanliness in the highest regard, so tidiness at State premises and institutions is an imperative, President Mnangagwa has said.
Speaking after donating ground maintenance equipment to the Air Force of Zimbabwe at State House in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, described the Second Republic as “a clean Government”.
“This is intended to keep State premises and institutions clean . . . like cutting grass around State institutions. We are a very smart Government, so we are very happy that we have this donation and I will make sure that it is properly used,” he said.
To ensure high levels of tidiness and compliance in State institutions and premises, President Mnangagwa said he would scrutinise this during visits.
“As I go around State institutions, I will inspect and make sure that they are kept clean, with grass cut throughout the year. So, we are very grateful for this donation to the State,” said the President.
Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede, thanked the President for the donation, also noting that the consignment could be used to clear runways.
“We are very excited as the Air Force of Zimbabwe with this donation, which we were given by His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa.
“We are going to use the tractors to mow grass along the runways, as you are aware, on the runways there will be grass, which will be growing there and it is something that will disturb aviation,” he said.
In a show of his commitment to cleanliness, President Mnangagwa launched the national clean-up campaign in December 2018, encouraging all citizens to clean their environment between 8am and 10am on the first Friday of every month.
The day was established by the President to promote environmental awareness and tackle waste management issues across the country.
The Second Republic continues to encourage everyone to participate in cleaning their communities during this time frame, from state premises and institutions to individuals, businesses and organisations.
