PRESIDENT Mnangagwa said his recent trip to Cote d’Ivoire yielded a lot of positive economic results with lines of credit and expression of interest to invest in the country from the United States and Britain having been secured successfully.
Speaking to scores of Zanu-PF supporters who thronged the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo yesterday to welcome him on his way to Lupane, the President said a number of countries availed their investment interests in the country.
“I am so happy that you have come to receive me. I arrived yesterday from Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire at the Africa Investment Forum for Africa investments. That is where I was. Zimbabwe was well received and supported. We were able to get investment support for a large amount of money from there. We are grateful that Africa was represented, the Americans and the British were also present. We sometimes have brushes with the British and the Americans but they have availed their investments to Zimbabwe,” he said.
The Africa Investments Forum saw investors expressing interest to fund projects valued at US$265.4 million that were presented. The President was enroute to a graduation ceremony at Lupane State University in Matabeleland North Province. He also spoke about his trip to Egypt.
“I am here in Bulawayo enroute to Lupane State University graduation. From there I am headed for Cairo in Egypt. There is a climate change conference where we are meeting as leaders of the whole world, all 193 countries. As Presidents we are meeting tomorrow (today), Sunday in Egypt. But, overall, I am glad that such a huge crowd welcomed me in Bulawayo. I am grateful,” he said.
The UN’s 27th annual Conference of the Parties takes place on the frontlines of the converging climate, food, energy, health and debt crisis in Africa. The theme of the summit is focused on implementation where it aims to shift the focus from negotiations and planning to action on the ground. It also seeks to ramp up adaptations to climate change impacts in parallel with emissions also hoping to highlight both Africa’s need for immediate climate action and its role in facilitating and mobilising action. — @NyembeziMu
