President Mnangagwa on Thursday launched an initiative by the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum to carry out a study on the effects of Britain’s colonialism on indigenous Zimbabweans and institute legal proceedings to force the British government to pay compensation and apologise for the brutality of the colonial Government.
The ceremony at State House was attended by several Cabinet ministers, diplomats and members of the forum.
The initiative is dubbed; “The untold story of the injustices, trauma, losses experienced by indigenous Zimbabwe during the colonial era 1890-1980′.”
In his remarks, President Mnangagwa thanked the forum for initiating a process to expose the colonial injustices suffered by indigenous Zimbabweans during the 100 years of colonial rule.

“I am humbled by the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum’s collective will towards the restoration of our dignity in the aftermath of the decades-long subjugation of the indigenous natives of this country by the racist colonial regime we kicked out,” he said.

The forum’s chairman Reverend Felix Mukonowengwe said they started the initiative in 2022 and thanked the members of the forum for their dedication and patriotism.
The forum is a grouping of eminent Zimbabweans from diverse backgrounds including the clergy, scholars and business leaders among others
