President leaves for Sadc summit

Government which opens today.
The summit is expected to discuss issues affecting the region.

The Head of State and Government and Commander -in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Government officials and service chiefs.
He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara among senior Government officials.

Sources say the chairperson of Sadc’s Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co operation and Zambian President Rupiah Banda will present to the summit a report reviewing progress on all problematic areas in the region. Some of the areas expected to be discussed are Madagascar, Malawi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe.

The summit will begin with a report by the out-going Sadc chairman, President Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia after which the in-coming chair and President of Angola Jose Eduado dos Santos will address the meeting.

The leaders are also expected to review the situation in the region bordering on such issues as HIV and Aids and food security.
