PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has directed a monthly allocation of US$5 million towards the construction of the strategic Gwayi-Shangani Dam in Matabeleland North, a move expected to accelerate completion of the project.
The dam, one of the province’s flagship development projects, is now projected to be completed by the end of the year.

Addressing Zanu-PF members during a Provincial Coordinating Committee extraordinary meeting held at the party’s provincial headquarters in Lupane on Saturday, provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo said the Treasury support would significantly fast-track progress.
“We are pleased that His Excellency, the President, in his vision and wisdom, has directed that US$5 million be allocated monthly towards the completion of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam. This intervention will undoubtedly speed up the project and transform Matabeleland North into a green belt,” said Cde Moyo.
The Gwayi-Shangani Dam is a critical component of the National Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project, which is expected to enhance water security, support irrigation and stimulate economic growth in the region.
