President Mnangagwa has joined world leaders in mourning the death of British monarch Queen Elizabeth II who died this afternoon.
Announcing her death at the age of 96 the official account of The Royal Family posted on Twitter saying: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
President Mnangagwa posted on his Twitter page conveying his condolences to the United Kingdom and its people.
“My deepest condolences to the @RoyalFamily, the people of the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth as they mourn the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. May she rest in peace,” posted the President.
French president Mr Emmanuel Macron mourned her death saying: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II embodied the British nation’s continuity and unity for over 70 years. I remember her as a friend of France, a kind-hearted queen who has left a lasting impression on her country and her century.”
United National Secretary-General António Guterres said he was saddened by her death.
“I am deeply saddened at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, admired worldwide for her leadership & devotion. She was a good friend to the @UN & a reassuring presence through decades of change. Her unwavering, lifelong dedication will be long remembered.”
Canadian prime minister Mr Justin Pierre James Trudeau said as a nation they would remember her.
“It was with the heaviest of hearts that we learned of the passing of Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was a constant presence in our lives – and her service to Canadians will forever remain an important part of our country’s history,” he posted.
English Football giants Manchester United also conveyed their condolences.
“Manchester United shares the sorrow of the entire nation following the announcement from Buckingham Palace on the passing of Her Royal Highness The Queen Elizabeth II.”
Manchester City Football club also conveyed their condolences.
“Manchester City wishes to express its sincere condolences to The Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s dedication and service has been exemplary and we join our country and the Commonwealth in mourning her loss.”
Arsenal Football Club said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Along with many of our supporters today, we will be taking time to mourn and reflect on Her Majesty’s incredible life and devoted service.”
