PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has extended his condolences to his Kenyan counterpart, President William Ruto, and the people of Kenya following the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga.
Mr Odinga (80) died of a heart attack on Wednesday while receiving medical treatment in India. A memorial service was held in his honour in Nairobi yesterday, and he will be laid to rest tomorrow (Sunday).
Mr Odinga is widely regarded as a towering figure in Kenyan politics, celebrated for his unwavering dedication to the development of his country. As tributes continue to pour in from around the world, President Mnangagwa yesterday reaffirmed the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity shared between Zimbabwe and Kenya.
“It was with deep shock and profound sadness that I learnt of the passing of Mr Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, on 15th October 2025. On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, my family, and indeed on my own behalf, I extend to you, Your Excellency, and the bereaved Odinga family, our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences,” said President Mnangagwa.
He said the former Prime Minister would be remembered for his distinguished service to Kenya’s development.
“We will forever cherish Mr Odinga’s commitment to our shared regional and continental developmental aspirations. Please accept, Your Excellency and Dear Brother, our heartfelt sympathies and the assurances of my highest consideration,” President Mnangagwa said in a statement.
