President Mnangagwa has officially opened the Davipel headquarters and commissioned the Sunway City Industrial Park at the Sunway City Special Economic Zone in Harare.
In his address, the President said the country’s current economic growth trajectory is a testament to the Second Republic’s development mantra that ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo’.
“My Government remains firmly committed to building a diversified competitive export economy riding on value addition and beneficiation,” he said.
“Our country’s hardworking people remain a critical national asset.”
He congratulated Davipel for a job well done in establishing its facilities and operations.
“Your entity is an exemplary test case in our ongoing industrialisation journey,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa said such investments by Davipel reduce imports and increase value addition, which dovetails with the country’s policies.
He then challenged the company to speed up the establishment of stockfeed distribution depots across the country.
This, he added, aligns with the Second Republic’s decentralisation efforts.
The President said it is also encouraging to note that the Sunway City Special Economic Zone currently houses 40 enterprises.
“Zimbabwe is indeed open for business…Zimbabwe must continue to position itself as a manufacturing hub,” he said.
Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu said today’s official opening and commissioning is a celebration of enterprise and resilience.
“Above all, we are celebrating the vision of the Second Republic under the leadership of our guest of honour,” he said.
The Industry Minister said the President had given the country a wake-up call to increase production and productivity.
“The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has indeed heeded the call to action you challenged us during the recently held Zimbabwe Industrialisation Conference and Expo, which brought to light the fact that our country continues to import approximately 2,5 billion US dollars worth of products that can be manufactured locally,” he said.
Harare’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Charles Tavengwa said today’s commissioning is a testament to the President’s mantra.
Davipel chief executive officer Mr Davison Norupiri said the President’s presence was a powerful endorsement of the role the private sector plays in economic growth.
Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Dr Kembo Mohadi, as well as Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, Cabinet Ministers and captains of industry were also in attendance.
