PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is today expected to preside over the Number 70 Pilot Training Course Wings Presentation and Commissioning Parade at Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base in Gweru, where newly trained pilots will be formally inducted into the Air Force of Zimbabwe.
The parade marks an important milestone in the training of military aviation personnel and the strengthening of the country’s air defence capabilities.
Air Force of Zimbabwe Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base Commander, Air Commodore Mubairo Andrew Dhliwayo, said it was a special honour to host President Mnangagwa, who is the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, as the reviewing officer.
He said the graduating officer cadets had undergone rigorous physical and intellectual training to qualify as pilots.
“The Number 70 Pilot Training Course is the third in the Second Republic and the 15th pilot training course to undergo basic flying training at Number 6 Squadron since our nation gained independence in 1980,” said Air Commodore Dhliwayo.
He said the course was also the second to undertake the Bachelor of Aviation Science Honours degree, reflecting the integration of professional military flying training and academic development.
Air Commodore Dhliwayo challenged the graduating officer cadets, who are set to be commissioned into the Air Force of Zimbabwe, to uphold the values of discipline, responsibility and integrity.
“Today, as you are presented with your wings, you are challenged to carry the nation’s aspirations and pride wherever you are. Remember, as an officer of the esteemed Zimbabwe Defence Forces, your Commander-in-Chief is none other than His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe himself,” he said.
He urged the graduates to wear their ranks with pride and remain committed to serving the country and its citizens.
The commander congratulated the officer cadets on successfully completing the demanding training programme, saying their achievement was a result of hard work and dedication.
