Outgoing COMESA Chairperson and Kenyan President William Ruto has announced the assumption of the bloc’s chairmanship by President Mnangagwa, with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema taking over as Vice Chairperson.

President Ruto said the bloc’s “One Market, One Future” vision carries a promise to its Member States and is beginning to yield tangible results through increased regional growth and declining inflation.

“Today 13 Member States meet our inflation benchmark,” he said.

President Ruto said COMESA’s total exports to the rest of the world had risen to US$212 billion, demonstrating the benefits of greater regional integration and trade.

“Behind these numbers is a clear lesson; If we trade with one another, we grow together,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure as Chairperson, President Ruto said he had remained committed to advancing COMESA’s integration agenda.

“Integration is more than removing barriers. It means connecting our people, economies and mindsets,” said President Ruto.
