President Mnangagwa will, on Wednesday, officially launch Zimbabwe @45: The Struggle for Sovereign Autonomy and Prosperity, a memoir by veteran legal scholar, liberation war stalwart, former Cabinet Minister and diplomat Professor Simbi Veke Mubako.
The launch, set for Heritage Village at Liberation City in Harare, comes as Zimbabwe pursues its Vision 2030 target of becoming an upper middle-income society.
Prof Mubako said the memoirs were intended to provide both reflection and guidance for the nation.
“It was my humble intention through these memoirs to provide a timely reminder to us all that the experiences of the past are living lessons for the present and a bridge to the future,” he said.
The book, published by the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK), where Prof Mubako served as board chairperson, is anchored on themes of nation-building, African identity, resilience and sovereignty — issues that remain central to Zimbabwe’s developmental discourse.
INSTAK is also spearheading the Museum of African Liberation project, part of its broader memory preservation and Pan-African intellectual initiatives.
Literary reviewer and ideologue Mr Richard Mahomva described the work as an important resource for scholars and policymakers alike.
“Prof Mubako’s book is a useful point of reference to understand the structural and institutional challenges which Zimbabwe has endured in the last 45 years of its independence,” he said.
“This is also an important book for established and emerging political and law academics who may want to draw inspiration from one of the pathfinders of Zimbabwe’s litigation sector, a reputable elderly statesman and academic, Cde Simbi Mubako.”
Zimbabwe @45 documents Prof Mubako’s multifaceted career and his contributions to law, politics and diplomacy, situating his personal journey within the broader national struggle for sovereignty and prosperity.
Copies of the memoir will be available at the launch, through leading booksellers nationwide and via online platforms.
