President Mnangagwa has called on Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Member States to deepen regional integration and ensure that the bloc’s shared goals translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
Welcoming his counterparts at the 25th COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government in Mt Hampden, including outgoing chairperson and Kenyan President William Ruto and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, President Mnangagwa said the regional bloc has matured into a major force for integration.
President Mnangagwa said COMESA had grown into a powerhouse comprising 21 Member States.
“This strategic regional bloc now boasts of 21 Member States,” he said.

The incoming COMESA chairperson said Member States should rise to the occasion and collectively work towards attaining the organisation’s shared goals.
He said regional integration must move beyond aspirations and become a tangible reality, with the creation of one market laying the foundation for a shared future.
President Mnangagwa also called for broader opportunities for women and children to enable them to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s growth and development.
“May the decisions we make at this summit renew our resolve towards a more integrated future for a COMESA region we want,” said the President.
