President Mnangagwa has expressed heartfelt condolences following the passing of Pope Francis, describing him as a man of profound humility who championed peace, compassion and justice.

In a letter addressed to His Holiness Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the acting head of the Vatican, President Mnangagwa this afternoon paid tribute to the late pontiff’s enduring impact on the world, particularly his efforts to uplift spiritual consciousness and advocate for marginalised communities.

“In this solemn hour, the world reflects with reverence on the life and legacy of a devoted servant,” he said.

“He dedicated himself to the service of God and humanity at large.

“We pray that Almighty God grant eternal rest to his soul and the entire Catholic Family, strength and comfort to overcome this loss.”

President Mnangagwa’s message echoed the sentiments of millions across the globe who are mourning the loss of a spiritual leader whose legacy will live on in the hearts of many.
