President promotes 18 retiring senior police officers

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has promoted 18 retiring senior police officers to the ranks of Deputy Commissioner-Generals and Commissioners respectively.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said six of the promoted officers were holding the ranks of Commissioners and are now Deputy Commissioner-Generals while 12 Assistant Commissioners retire with the rank of Commissioners.

“The Commissioner-General of Police, Tandabantu Godwin Matanga advices the public that His Excellency, President of the Republic Of Zimbabwe, Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has promoted the following senior officers upon retirement,” said Comm Nyathi.

Among those promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner-General is former Bulawayo Criminal Investigations Department co-ordinator who was also Officer Commanding Matabeleland North province, Commissioner Erasmus Makodza, who has been promoted alongside Commissioners David Mahoya Kudakwashe Mubemi, Priscilla Makotose, Winston Muzah and Richard Basera.

Commissioner Nyathi said 12 retiring Assistant Commissioners have been elevated to the rank of Commissioner.

Former Matabeleland North deputy officer commanding (crime) before he was posted to police headquarters as deputy officer commanding national traffic responsible for operations, Assistant Commissioner Shelton Dube, is one of the 12 retiring Assistant Commissioners.

Retired Comm Dube was promoted to the rank of Asst Comm in 2013 and his first station was in Matabeleland North where he was officer in charge crime. He was later transferred to Police General Headquarters as Deputy Officer commanding national traffic where he was responsible for operations, particularly accident prevention measures.

In 2016, while still at the police HQ, Rtd Comm Dube held the position of Senior Staff Officer for internal investigations.

Between 2017 and 2019, Rtd Comm Dube operated in Guinea-Bissau as the deputy senior police advisor after being seconded to the United Nations mission where he was among a team of senior officers providing strategic support and technical advice to the Government of Guinea-Bissau in combating drug trafficking and transnational organised crime.

He returned home in June 2019 and was briefly posted in the Midlands province before he headed back to the capital as Deputy Officer Commanding Harare province in charge of operations.

Upon his retirement, Rtd Comm Dube was stationed in Masvingo province as Deputy Officer Commanding (administration).

Other retired Assistant Commissioners are Simon Mundondwa, James Sipo Makone, Tadeus Madondo George Mugonda, Johannes Govo, Johannes Chinembiri, Innocent Zimbwa, Godfrey Zimbwa, Richard Mubaiwa, Blessing Chitombe, Obeylaw Moyo and Wilson Engelbert Chamunorwa

“A total of 16 retiring chief superintendents were conferred with rank of Assistant Commissioner while 33 retiring superintendents were conferred with ranks of chief superintendent. The promotions are in line with the Government’s vision 2030,” said Comm Nyathi.

Last month, 86 senior police officers were promoted to the ranks of Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Chief Superintendents.

The promoted senior officers include national police spokesperson Commissioner Nyathi from rank of Assistant Commissioner, together with 16 others.

Former Bulawayo police spokesperson and Officer Commanding Gwanda District, Chief Superintendent Mandlenkosi Moyo, together with 27 others have been promoted to Assistant Commissioner rank.

Officer Commanding Commercial Crimes Southern region, Superintendent Alford Nyasha and Supt Sipiwe Makonese who is former Matabeleland North provincial spokesperson together with 39 others have been elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent.
