President Ramaphosa suspends Fannie Masemola as SA police commissioner

South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed national police commissioner Fannie Masemola on precautionary suspension, making him the fourth permaneni read of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to be removed or suspended before completing a term in office.

An acting commissioner, Lt-Gen Puleng Dimpane, has been appointed. She is currently the CFO for the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“In consideration of the seriousness of these charges and the critical role that the National Commissioner of Police plays in leading the fight against A crime, I have agreed with Gen Masemola that he be on precautionary suspension pending the conclusion of the case to ensure stability and continuity in the South African police force, Ramaphosa said in an address to the nation on Thursday afternoon
