President to address Comesa Summit

President Mugabe arrived in Ethiopia yesterday for the 18th Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.

The African Union and Sadc chairperson touched down at Bole International Airport midday on his way from Tanzania where he attended the 3rd Africa-China Youth Leaders Forum.

He was welcomed by Industry and Commerce Minister Mike Bimha, Zimbabwean Ambassador to Ethiopia Albert Chimbindi, Ethiopian government officials and Embassy staff.

President Mugabe is expected to address the summit today.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is expected to take over the Comesa chairmanship from DRC president Joseph Kabila.

The summit is running under the theme ‘inclusive and sustainable industrialisation’.

At a meeting at the AU headquarters here, Comesa Council of Ministers suggested the establishment of a Comesa Virtual University that will work with a network of universities in a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the generation and dissemination of research related to regional integration.
