President to be honoured

Students from the All African Students Union (AASU) jetted into Zimbabwe yesterday to award President Mugabe with the Pan-Africanist President of the Decade honour.
The AASU’s membership is drawn from Uganda, Togo, Liberia, Ghana and Rwanda
After meeting the students at Harare International Airport, Minister of State for Harare, Miriam Chikukwa, said this showed that President Mugabe’s leadership qualities were being recognised across the continent.

She said Africa would achieve self-determination if people united and shared President Mugabe’s vision for indigenous people to be masters of their own destiny.

“Your recognition of President Mugabe as a true Pan-Africanist President is very correct and clearly indicates that you appreciate what President Mugabe is doing to instill the idea of total black independence on the African continent,” said Minister Chikukwa.

“Let all African leaders unite with one goal of making sure that the continent never falls in the hands of the imperialists again.”
AASU vice president Semanyi Isaac of Uganda said African youths should unite and support the Pan-African values and ideas promoted by President Mugabe.

“President Mugabe has shown that he is a true Pan-Africanist leader who stands firm in terms of defending the hard-won independence of Zimbabweans and Africans at large, and it is high time for us as the youths to grasp these ideas and support them in order to jealously guard our independence from imperialists,” he said.

“The award that we are going to give President Mugabe is an appreciation of AASU to him for standing firm as a true Africanist President of the Decade who caters for black liberation and empowerment as evidenced by the land reform programme which he spearheaded here in Zimbabwe.”
