Government committed to empowering citizens with digital skills and knowledge: Minister Tawengwa
The launch of Digitruck and the Digital Skills Ambassador Programme is vital as it will empower individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape, a top Government official said.
“This is in sync with the dictates of NDS1 – that of promoting effective governance, empowering local communities, and ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach every corner of our province,” said the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Senator Charles Tawengwa.
“The Digitruck initiative is a transformative programme that seeks to enhance digital literacy and access to information technology in our communities.”
Minister Tawengwa said by equipping citizens, especially the youth, with these tools, they are fostering personal growth and contributing to the overall development of the country.
Digitruck to empower marginalised communities: Chinese Ambassador Zhou
The Digitruck initiative is aimed at enhancing digital empowerment for the Zimbabwean people, especially those in rural areas, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding has said.
Speaking at the launch of the Digitruck this morning, Ambassador Zhou said the initiative will improve people’s digital awareness and skills.
He encouraged the continuation of this endeavour to utilise digital technology and break down barriers.
“Your Excellency, the President, your unwavering dedication to modernisation, infrastructure expansion, and social equity is notable across the country and beyond,” Ambassador Zhou said.
“We are working on the exciting programme regionally. We are championing your noble philosophy of leaving no place and no one behind.”
Digitrucks to be rolled out nationwide
Government will roll out Digitrucks in all the country’s 10 provinces as it continues to enhance digital empowerment in line with attaining Vision 2030, Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Minister Dr Tatenda Mavetera has said.
Speaking at the launch today, Minister Mavetera said the National Development Strategy 1 identifies the digital economy as a key pillar of growth.
Minister Mavetera said it is crucial to equip Zimbabweans with essential digital skills, enabling them to interact, innovate and thrive in the digital landscape.
“By doing so, we are building a technologically proficient society capable of maximising digital innovation,” she said.
Minister Mavetera said the digital truck features a 10-kilowatt solar-powered system that supports a mobile digital laboratory, which also has batteries that can last for more than three days without recharging.
She said the truck can accommodate 20 students and one instructor, with each person having access to a laptop.
Additionally, there is a 65-inch smart screen for digital skills training.

What is a DigiTruck?
A DigiTruck can get to where it’s needed most, reaching communities that conventional classrooms can’t.
Equipped with 20 laptops, 20 VR headsets, and built in Wi-Fi, each DigiTruck serves as a temporary digital school that provides free classes, resources, and materials.

President Mnangagwa has commissioned a Digitruck donated by Huawei Technologies as well as the Digital Skills Ambassador Programme.

The digital truck features a 10 kilowatt solar-powered system that supports a mobile digital laboratory, which also has batteries that can last for more than three days without recharging.

It can also accommodate 20 students and one instructor, with each person having access to a laptop. Additionally, there is a 65-inch smart screen for digital skills training.

Speaking during the commissioning at State House, President Mnangagwa said 100 digital ambassadors will be deployed in each province, delivering strategic and inclusive digital literacy, training to the public.
“These ambassadors will serve as the co-leaders of the effort for digital literacy, fostering innovation and supporting local businesses, schools and households,” the President said.

“We expect this programme to help bridge the rural and urban digital divide, to propel the economy, prosperity and a brighter future for our youth.”
