President Mnangagwa, also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), will officiate at the main ZDF Day celebrations today at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the day set aside to celebrate the national security organs for their role in defending the nation’s interest and territorial integrity while preserving its peace and stability.
This, as usual, promises to be a momentous event for the proud and peace-loving people of this country.

The day will be marked as peace continues to prevail in the country as it has done since the first ZDF Day was commemorated in 1980.
The country is moving ahead economically and socially and is on track to attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030.
Highlights of the ZDF Day commemorations will include a static military display to be mounted outside the National Sports Stadium. That will highlight the strength of our military. The display will be educative.
There will be much entertainment as well around this huge day. Music starts playing at the giant facility at 7AM.

As the norm, the military will stage a display which includes the awe-inspiring parachute jumps, gun drills and abseiling.
There will also be a football match pitting the ZDF Select Team and the Malawi Defence Forces side.
Soon after the match, the ZDF will stage a retreat parade.
It is a packed programme to inform, entertain and educate those who will be at the National Sports Stadium.
Those who will be unable to make it physically to the stadium will get the action on national television outlets.

Ahead of today, the ZDF undertook a wide range of community development activities such as building schools, clinics and so on.
Under the Community Assistance Week which ran from August 7 to August 11, the ZDF handed over Mbamba Clinic in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North Province, a new classroom block and four refurbished classroom blocks at Gurungweni Secondary School in Chikombedzi, Masvingo Province, Tongogara Clinic in Shurugwi District, Midlands Province, and a classroom block a Nyavira Secondary School in Nyabira, Mashonaland West Province.
