PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is set to launch the Presidential Agricultural Climate Proofing Input Support Programme for the forthcoming summer cropping season in Buhera district.

Addressing the 378th Zanu PF Politburo meeting in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s First Secretary, urged all farmers to adequately prepare for the season, given promising rains forecast by experts.

“Given the promising 2024/2025 rainfall season, I call upon all structures of the party to keep members and communities mobilised and to adequately prepare for the upcoming season. Government has begun to avail the requisite inputs under the Presidential Agriculture Climate Proofing Input Support Programme, which I will be launching in Buhera. No household, village or ward, will be left behind,” he said.

President Mnangagwa congratulated the Agricultural Rural Development Authority for scooping the 2024 Africa Food Prize which recognised individuals and institutions that were working to transform agriculture in Africa.

Arda chief executive Mr Tinotenda Mhiko won the 2024 Africa Food Prize worth US$100 000 for his ground-breaking leadership and innovation in advancing food security through strategic irrigation initiatives which are revolutionising Zimbabwe’s food systems.

The announcement was made by former Prime Minister of Niger, Mr Ibrahim Mayaki, during the 2024 Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali, Rwanda early this month.

In the citation, Mr Mhiko’s visionary leadership at ARDA was seen as a driving force in overcoming some of Zimbabwe’s most pressing agricultural challenges, such as recurrent droughts, erratic rainfall and widespread land  degradation.

President Mnangagwa has since congratulated Mr Mhiko after he paid a courtesy call on the Head of State and Government at State House last week.
