Sikhumbuzo Moyo in Binga
PRIMARY and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo has begun a tour of schools in Binga, with infrastructure, academic performance and the registration of unregistered schools high on his agenda.
Minister Moyo visited Simbala and Chasamba secondary schools yesterday as he began his assessment of schools in the district.
At Chasamba Secondary School, the Minister met the school’s 11 teachers, led by headmistress Ms Nyarai Chipango, and explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the state of infrastructure and teaching standards.
“We are not here to intimidate or accuse you of anything. We want to assess your infrastructure, check if it is adequate. We also want to see your scheme books, to check if you have schemed adequately for the term,” said Minister Moyo.
He also requested the school’s pass rates for the past four years, with Ms Chipango revealing that the school recorded a zero percent pass rate in 2022.
The pass rate improved to 4,8 percent in 2023 before rising sharply to 18,4 percent in 2024.
However, the figure fell to 13,04 percent last year.
Minister Moyo is expected to visit six schools in Binga, three each in Binga South and Binga North, during his tour.
The Minister said a key objective of the visit was to understand the challenges affecting the registration of schools in the district.
“A number of our schools here are not registered and as a Ministry we want to understand what the challenges are for the schools to be registered. Binga has the highest number of unregistered schools in the country, hence our visit,” he said.
After the brief meeting, Minister Moyo and his delegation observed an Agriculture lesson for Form Three learners.
