THE Minister of State for Matabeleland North, Cde Richard Moyo, has urged companies in the province to prioritise locals in job and employment programmes to curb unemployment in the province.
The call comes at a time when President Mnangagwa’s Government is pushing for the realisation of devolution where provinces will have more control over their economic activities.
Speaking during the Hwange Colliery nurses’ graduation ceremony in Hwange on Friday, Cde Moyo said companies should prioritise locals when employing as this was part of devolution.
“I am glad that this occasion is taking place in Matabeleland North Province, it is symbolic and speaks to greater strides, we can achieve if we all work towards empowerment of our local communities.
Government, as part of the new dispensation is working on modalities of a devolved system where provinces administer their respective economies. I am glad that when we say Zimbabwe is open for business we also say Matabeleland North is no exception hence we are looking forward to our people being employed as business and companies open,” he said.
Cde Moyo said nurses that were graduating should be employed in different parts of the country specifically Matabeleland North Province since most health institutions in the province were facing shortages.
“I am hoping the Minister of Health (and Child Care) will consider shortage of nurses in the rural areas. I am pinning my hopes that those who graduated today will be deployed to such areas,” he said.
Cde Moyo urged the nurses to raise the flag and deliver quality health care.
The training of nurses is part of Hwange Colliery Company’s social corporate responsibility. The event which saw 97 nurses graduating was significant as it has not been held for the past six years because of economic challenges faced by the Hwange Colliery Company.
