Prison officer put behind bars

An officer with the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Service will spend the next one-and-a-half years in prison for conniving with an incarcerated man to swindle the prisoner’s wife of US$8 700.
Archiford Nyaungwe (31) of Unit N, Chitungwiza, was arrested at the bank while trying to transfer cash from the prisoner’s wife’s account into his own.

He denied fraud charges before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, but was convicted after prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved a case against him. He was slapped with a two-year jail term with six months suspended for five years.

Mr Jarabini said the fraud was highly prejudice although Nyaungwe did not eventually benefit. “It is aggravating to note that the accused connived with a prisoner who was serving at a prison where he was guarding.”
