Probes shooting of deputy chief justice’s bodyguard

NAIROBI. — Kenyan authorities have launched investigations into the shooting of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s bodyguard and driver on Tuesday evening. Area Officer Commander Police Station (OCPD) Rashid Mohammed said yesterday that the incident happened at 5:30pm in Nairobi and that Justice Mwilu was not in the car at the time of the shooting. He said the injured, Titus Musyoka who was shot in the shoulder, is being treated in a city hospital.

“We are treating the incident as a robbery but investigations are ongoing,” he said. Police sources said Musyoka has undergone a successful operation. Deputy Inspector General of Police Joel Kitili said they were yet to know the motive of the shooting.

“The officer is in hospital and we are pursuing the attackers. We will be able to tell the motive after getting them,” he said. Musyoka was alone at the time of the roadside shooting after dropping the deputy chief justice at her Karen home. Musyoka then drove to the scene to buy flowers, police and witnesses said. Musyoka was in official uniform when gunmen riding on a motorcycle stopped behind his car and attacked him. The incident caused panic in the security circles with conflicting information coming out before it was confirmed Mwilu was not present. — Xinhua.
