THE ProBhora Development League was yesterday revelling in news that their top goalscorer and Legends Football Academy forward Nixon Mandaza has successfully returned from a week-long training and assessment camp with South African Premiership side Stellenbosch in Cape Town.
ProBhora league spokesman and Dynamos legend Murape Murape led the plaudits via a statement and expressed happiness that the 19-year-old Mandaza’s progress proved that they were fulfilling their objective of giving young talent the chance and the platform to flourish.
Murape, currently on tour in Spain with Harare-based Heritage Real Oviedo academy, said in his statement that:
“Nixon earned this opportunity after finishing as the top goalscorer in the first half of the ProBhora season, providing a powerful example of how performance in a competitive domestic league can create opportunities beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
“During the assessment camp, Nixon competed alongside more senior professional players from Nigeria, Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo, gaining invaluable experience in a professional environment and demonstrating his ability to compete at a higher level.
“As the ProBhora League spokesperson, writing from Oviedo, Spain, I believe Nixon’s experience is an important milestone not only for the player and Legends Football Academy, but also for the wider ProBhora vision,’’ Murape said.
Murape added that the ProBhora pathway was designed to create a platform where players can:
- Compete at a meaningful level
- Perform and have their progress measured
- Be seen through match footage and digital platforms
- Gain exposure beyond Zimbabwe
- Access opportunities that can potentially lead to the professional game.
“Nixon’s opportunity was earned through his performances on the pitch. The fact that ProBhora matches are filmed and made available through SportsAi, supported by Smart Stats performance data, adds another important dimension to the pathway.
“Players are no longer dependent solely on someone being physically present at a particular match to discover their talent.
