A senior employee of Lodzi Hunters Company in Tsholotsho, Davries Mathys Martins has been arrested on charges of illegally hunting a kudu and is set to appear in court this week.
Martins is set to appear in court charged with contravening section 63 (1) (b) as read with (6) of the same section chapter 2014; “fail(ure) to report killed or injured animal to an appropriate authority within seven days”.
According to summons, on 9 August the accused person allegedly killed a kudu at Tsholotsho North Campfire concession, an area leased to Matupula Hunters Company by Tsholotsho Rural District Council.
He then took the kudu to his parent company, Lodzi Hunters Company premises.
“Police officers at ZRP Tsholotsho got a report of illegal hunting from Sambulo Moyo who is the projects co-ordinator at Matupula Hunters Company. Police officers attended the scene and recovered two horns of a kudu which was illegally hunted by the accused person,” reads part of the summons.
Documents seen by this publication show that Martins also made a counter police report, accusing workers from another safari company of stealing the kudu trophy worth US$950 from his company premises, indicating that he had authority to hunt and kill the animal.—Sunday News Reporter
