Promote nation’s moral values, artistes told

on his behalf by an official from his office, Cde Shamu said gospel music has always articulated some of the ethos that guide a nation.
The minister said this during the launch of Tsitsi Chawapiwa’s second album titled “Tendeuka”, which was launched at the Anglican Cathedral in Harare a fortnight ago.
“As a gospel musician, Chawapiwa has been playing a crucial role in complementing the Church in its role as a moral guide and teacher.
“Her gospel music articulately expresses people’s spiritual belief regarding Christian life and hence achieves its primary objective of praising, worshipping and giving thanks to God,” Cde Shamu said.
Cde Shamu said gospel music also worked as a therapy to the nation’s ills.
“As a conscious artiste, Chawapiwa uses her music to pray to God to alleviate the difficulties His people are facing because she realises that both the material and spiritual needs of the people have to be met.
“In rallying people to prayer so that their material needs are met, she is therefore assisting the State whose primary responsibility is to cater for the material needs of the people in this temporary order of the world,” he said.
Minister Shamu also used the same platform to denounce piracy, which he said was undermining efforts by artistes.
“However, the good work being undertaken by our musicians and the entire music industry continues to be undermine by escalating piracy in the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, the launch was a success that saw fellow gospel diva Joyce Simeti entertaining people.
Chawapiwa also performed some of her songs from her two albums.
Chawapiwa (29) draws her inspiration from an array of local and international musicians who sing different genres.
She honed her music talent singing in the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) after having developed her passion for music in high school at Murape Secondary School in Seke, where she was the chairperson of the Scripture Union.
