Proper parenting on young celebrities pays off

EFFECTIVE parenting plays a crucial role in shaping the futures and careers of children as they learn significantly from their guardians.

Worldwide, top celebrities—ranging from football stars to musicians and filmmakers—have been sharing pictures with their children, teaching them the ropes.

This is quite inspiring, as they go out of their way to instil the same spirit in their children.

At high-profile soccer matches, world-over we also see athletes parading their children each time they win gold medals after tournaments.

Through this practice, the spirit of winning is instilled in them from a tender age.

Some children are even “initiated” into their parents’ line of work as young as three years old.

In Zimbabwe, we have witnessed the same trend. Locally, Mukudzeyi Mukombe Junior, son of Jah Prayzah, is arguably one of the most popular young celebrities Zimbabwe has ever had.

In his early primary school years, he had already tasted fame.

He has recorded music, and fans were blown away by his talent.

This is a perfect example of how children can emulate the traits of their parents.

The same can be said for Esin Zulu (13) daughter of Kireni Zulu.

In 2019, at the age of six, she was part of the Zimbabwe Female Gospel Artistes Association (ZFGAA) line-up at the Harare Gardens.

She has since recorded a song on drug abuse titled “Siyai Zvinodhaka,” which has been doing well on the radio charts.

She also has two more albums to her credit including “Tererai” and “Ndauya Zvachose.” Esin regularly features in her father’s performances during live shows.

At one show, she revealed that she owes everything to her father.

“My father is my pillar, and I have been copying what he does. I want to do it better with age,” Esin chuckled during a recent family show in Waterfalls, Harare.

“Music is my calling, and I can’t afford to quit because it defines me and my path. Of course, he is the one guiding me, and I can’t deny the fact that I am still a kid who needs his hand in whatever I do in my life.”

Comedy fans of Madam Boss have often seen her doing skits with her daughter Mikayla, which is a marvel to watch.

As the saying goes, “an apple does not fall far from the tree.” Mikayla effortlessly handles most of the roles she gets.

Whether they rehearse together or not, the chemistry is undeniable.

As she approaches her early teens, Mikayla is destined for stardom, but it all begins at home, where kids learn from their parents.

Earlier this year, nine-year-old Skanyiso Ngwenya made history after being crowned Outstanding Male Actor at the 23rd National Arts Merit Awards ceremony held in Harare.

In his acceptance speech, he showed maturity beyond his years. He learnt the ropes in Victoria Falls under the guidance of his parents.

Largely inspired by Arnold Tongayi Chirisa, Skanyiso is not only a young celebrity, but also a torchbearer for the local film and television sector.

With proper management and grooming, Skanyiso has the potential to go far.

There are several other teens and even younger celebrities excelling in various disciplines like sports, science, arts and research.
