exercise as it is not easy to stay consistent and motivated, and a healthy approach towards one’s nutrition.
These three can be compared to a camera tripod which cannot stand if one leg is missing. However, there are also other important ways for one to complement these three and when put together one can achieve almost any fitness goals. This does not only apply to general fitness enthusiasts but to all sports as well.
Setting realistic goals
Whether one wants to lose weight or gain a faster time on the stop watch one must always use a realistic approach. This is because when you try and become an over achiever it is easy to give up when things do not turn out the way you may have planned.
Aiming too high has cost many athletes and has brought a lot of disappointment to those who aimed too high.
Consistent effort
As an athlete one should always try to apply consistent effort in whatever sport they may be involved in. This does not only apply to the day of the match that they may be playing, but also during preparation and during the run-up to an event, this is the only way that one can truly achieve the best results.
Prioritise
One should always accept that as an athlete there are some things that you may have to cut out of your lifestyle in order to be at the top of your game. This may also include scaling down on some social events and even changing the times that you may have to spend with family. These are very difficult choices to make but when one wants to reach the top prioritising plays a major part.
Positive attitude
From a realistic point of view there more negative people out there than there positive ones. This is a very sad reality but as an athlete one must always try to remain positively motivated if your goal is to reach the top. How many times have you heard people saying “you’ll never win that match” or “what are you wasting your time for”? These people should be avoided by all means as they may turn you into a negative athlete.
Mental concentration
Whatever sport one may be involved in, mental focus plays an integral role. If you do not concentrate during training and especially during actual competition, you may make errors and eventually loose the game. Maintaining focus is the best way to achieve best results.
Mix it up
To avoid burn-out and boredom one should always try to use variety. This helps one stay motivated and one can easily avoid what bodybuilders call the “plateau”, which refers to one training endlessly and not getting any results. However, you should not stray away from the actual intended goal.
Avoid over training
In the past many athletes would train seven days of the week doing even two sessions a day. Research has revealed that in order for the body to recuperate efficiently one must use moderate training with adequate rest to achieve results. This will help one avoid burn-out and also injuries also.
Avoid illegal substances
Yes, one can achieve the most phenomenal results with enhancing substances. There are, however, many horror stories that have been published worldwide of the negative side effects that are associated with substance abuse. Proper training methods, proper nutrition and adequate rest should yield good results without the ultimate bad career, medical, social and economic repercussions.
Good nutrition
As an active athlete one burns most of the stored vital nutrients, so it is only wise to replenish those nutrients through a balanced diet coupled by proper food supplements in order to be in top form.
Always seek more knowledge
With all the information now readily available nowadays athletes should always stay abreast of all the latest trends in whatever sport they may be involved in. Attending rivals’ events and basically learning more is the only way to reach the top in any sport.
All these tips applied properly can give some awesome results, try them!
