Prophets or studying, where’s your faith?

Prophets in the country seem to be creating new miracles each day. As exams near Cool Lifestyle has picked up that there are teens putting their faith in miracle pens, miracle oils which are said to guarantee candidates flying colours in their exams. Some even go to the extent of saying, “Just attend one session at my church and your exam can be a walk over.” On the other hand correct studying has always been held as the only way to pass exams. Where would you put your faith, prophets or studying? Teens speak their minds:

I would rather put my faith in studying than in prophets because today there are many that we might spell as “profits” because they are motivated by money and make sensational claims. They promise financial blessing and passes with As to anyone that sends their seeds of faith. They even claim to know how many viewers or listeners there will be and that followers would have their mortgages paid off or see their business prosper if they send their offerings today. Truly God does not work their way these are wolves in sheep’s clothing, so I think reading the books is the best because the exams do not require prophets but knowledge of our subjects.

Even the scriptures say God rewards hard work. Somehow a miracle of simply passing without study is almost impossible. There is no guarantee that contemporary prophets are all divinely elected. Critics even propose that some derive their powers from realms distant from God. An intercession by the prophet therefore would be just to cleanse and spiritually help one not to forget what they have been reading and halt spiritual attacks during the exam period. So I would rather put my faith in studying.

I would put my faith in studying, faith or prayer without works is dead. Studying is there to activate and boost a student’s mind. A prophet is someone who foretells the future so I think if we know the definition of a prophet students will say studying is the best medicine.

I put my faith in studying because I believe that God helps someone who also helps themselves. The prophets are more like motivators because they say you will pass to someone who does not have faith and they start believing in the prophets and they end up passing because of their faith in the prophets. But I myself put my faith in studying.

I would prefer studying because nobody knows the real prophet and if I’m to put the faith to prophets they may end up taking advantage of me.

Innocent Kanengoni, 18, Glen View 2 High.

As now people believe in faith, I can put my faith on studying and also to God to help me and give me wisdom when I pray. If prophets just make students pass then why are we going to school to learn and study instead of going for the exam only?

Arena Gwindi, 13, Kuwadzana 1 High

I will definitely put my faith in my studies rather that in prophets. I believe God will help you if believe in him and yourself and you study hard because passing is all about studying hard. What if the prophet is a false one whilst you put your whole faith in him or her instead of studying? The result is clear. Believe in God and he will do great things for you rather than putting all your faith in the prophets.

For me I would put my faith in both of them as they can work hand in hand. Putting your faith in the prophet can also put you close to God while you also need the acquired knowledge from studying so putting the two together can make you come out with better results. What I can advise is not to put too much faith in the miracle pens as the pen cannot open your head to produce information that you have put there through studying.

Abel Taruvinga, 17, Divine Solution College.

Obviously I will put my faith in my studies rather that in the prophets because first of all I don’t believe in prophets and secondly students have been passing without these prophets so why would I put my faith in them? And as for miracle pens, to me it doesn’t work. One can only be rewarded from the hard work that you would have put in your studying.

Maponga Delight, 18, Mucheke High Masvingo.

Before the coming in of many prophets, children passed and they continued to do so and why should we rely on prophets now? Prophets can help especially with the spiritual aspects and that’s where they should put their focus on not telling students that if you want to pass attend a service at my church. I believe that I can only pass if I study hard not in putting my faith in the prophets. Talking of miracle pens, that’s one thing I don’t believe in.

Joeleen Hofisi, 17, Corpus Christian College.

Prophets have always been giving us advice and words of wisdom so why shun them now? I believe that putting the two together can be a great thing. Prophets and studying can make you pass. You can have faith in the prophet while your head is blank then expect to pass, that’s close to impossible. So for me I would put my faith in both, even with the miracle pen I don’t mind taking my chances.
