PROTEAS Women beat the Lady Chevrons by 64 runs in the second T20 International at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday.
South Africa, who elected to bat first, posted a formidable 193 for three in their 20 overs before restricting Zimbabwe to 129 for seven.
Anneke Bosch led the Proteas’ batting effort with a blistering 65 off 31 balls, including 12 fours, while Faye Tunnicliffe added an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls. Annerie Dercksen also provided late impetus with an unbeaten 36 off 20 balls as South Africa finished on 193 for three.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers had mixed fortunes. Michelle Mavunga and Tendai Makusha claimed one wicket apiece, while Lindokuhle Mabhero also took a wicket. Mavunga was the most economical of the three, conceding 25 runs from her four overs.
The Lady Chevrons struggled in the chase after losing Sharne Mayers for a duck in the opening over. Christine Mutasa top-scored with an unbeaten 30 off 26 balls, while Nyasha Gwanzura made 18 and Nomvelo Sibanda finished unbeaten on 15.
South Africa’s bowlers then completed the job, with teenage spinner Seshnie Naidu taking three wickets for 26 runs in her four overs. Anneke Bosch also made a major contribution with the ball, claiming two wickets for just five runs from two overs, while Eliz-Mari Marx took one wicket for 18 runs.
Zimbabwe finished on 129 for seven from their 20 overs, giving the Proteas a 64-run victory.
