PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has called for the protection and preservation of public infrastructure, saying such property must always be treated with respect and dignity.

Speaking after touring a state-of-the-art 72-seater modern coach presented to him at State House yesterday by Mafidi Mnangagwa Primary School’s Development Committee, President Mnangagwa said everyone is obliged to “behave responsibly” when using public infrastructure.

The bus was purchased using funds from the school coffers, supplemented by a contribution from President Mnangagwa.

The school, located in Kwekwe District, was founded in 1995 and was named after President Mnangagwa’s father as a way of honouring the President for his various contributions in the province.

“I repeat, for such a state-of-the-art facility, we expect that every single passenger who goes in there should walk in with dignity and respect. In fact, it just compels you when you walk in to behave,” said President Mnangagwa.

“You cannot have those people who make noise or drink to go in there. It just tells you to behave before you are told to behave. The atmosphere just tells you, brother, sister, behave. It is so beautiful, state-of-the-art.”

President Mnangagwa said it was an extreme honour for the school to name the institution after his father, the late Mr Mafidi Mnangagwa.

“I am extremely honoured that they gave my father’s name to this school. It is an honour, I feel very much honoured, and it is a state-of-the-art bus,” said President Mnangagwa.

He commended the school authorities for their choice of the coach, which he described as a combination of modernity and luxury.

“I have never been in such comfort in my life. I wish I could find the opportunity someday to travel in a bus of this nature,” said President Mnangagwa.

“Are there schools for the elderly? So, can you ride on the bus? Fantastic, it is very comfortable.”
Mafidi Mnangagwa Primary School headmaster Mr Peterson Mudumani said the school was one of the beneficiaries of the President’s developments and contributions, hence the gesture.

“It was in honour of the President for the various developments he has made in Kwekwe. We bought this coach last year, and there are only two such coaches in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“It was imported from China. We had sent some pictures of the bus; however, the President thought it would be better if he saw the bus.”

President Mnangagwa also donated Starlink kits and printing accessories to the institution.
