Hurungwe East National Assembly representative Cde Sarah Mahoka has urged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to avail adequate accommodation and vehicles to its stations in rural areas.
Cde Sarah Mahoka was speaking at a district cattle branding village model launch presided over by Police Deputy Commisioner-General Innocent Matibiri at Tengwe Business Centre in Hurungwe East recently.
She said it sometimes took days for police to start investigating serious crimes because of transport problems.
“Deputy Commissioner-General, our police station here at Tengwe does not have a vehicle, which makes it difficult to attend to cases of murder and rape on time.
“Our policemen are sometimes forced to brave heavy rains and cycle distances of more than 70km to attend to murder and rape cases at
Chirariro,” she said.
Cde Mahoka said accommodation at Tengwe Police Station was appalling with some families living in tobacco barns.
She has sourced 5 000 bricks for houses to be built at Tengwe Police Station and said she was ready to get more.
The MP has also helped start pig and poultry projects run by families of police officers.
