Following the official launch of the 2026 Culture Month celebrations on May 21 at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo, where thousands gathered for a vibrant showcase of Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, provinces across the country are now gearing up to host their own provincial commemorations.

President Mnangagwa officiated at the national launch, which brought together citizens, artistes, traditional leaders and creatives from across the country under the theme: “Cultural Diversity: Advancing Vision 2030.”

Matabeleland North provincial head in the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Jenamiso Ncube, said preparations are well on course across all districts.

“Binga District will start with the commemorations at district level at Malala Lubu on 28 May 2026. This event will mark the beginning of the provincial celebrations of our cultures, showcasing our diversity and unity.

“Bubi District will host the provincial launch at Loziba Primary School on June 12, 2026. The Hwange District launch will be in Jambezi at Chief Shana’s homestead on 29 May 2026,” said Ncube.

He said other districts will not have official launch ceremonies, but will hold cultural activities aimed at preserving and promoting local traditions.

“Lupane District has no official launch, but will hold significant cultural activities such as exhibitions and ixhiba, running concurrently with the Provincial Expo from May 27 to 29. Nkayi District also has no official launch, but cultural activities will take place at Nesigwe on 28 May 2026.

“Tsholotsho District will also not have an official launch, but will host a fully-fledged Cultural Festival at Ngamo Academy in Ward 3 on 28 May 2026,” said Ncube.— @mthabisi_mthire
