HIGHLANDERS FC juniors coach Dumaza Dube will be part of the four-man technical team that will be in charge of a Population Services International Under-20 football squad that got into camp in Harare yesterday.
The appointment is due recognition for good service to junior development by Dube who has spearheaded a campaign against age cheating in the ranks. He is quite knowledgeable about juniors countrywide.
Dube has been Bosso’s head of development and is expected to be retained.
The 20-member squad was selected during the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Under-20 football tournament held towards the end of last year. The training camp will be held at Churchill High School in the capital.
Other members of the technical team are former Caps United player Alois Bunjira, former Monomotapa coach George Jojo and the Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association boss, Bheki Nyoni.
“We will be in camp for a week and we’re expected to have a match against an as yet unidentified opponent,” said Nyoni.
He said the whole idea behind the squad was to expose the players to various coaches who will be invited to attend the training match.
“It was realised that many tournaments are held and teams selected but after that, nothing happens for the selected players until they are over aged. This time around we want to present an opportunity to these youngsters. We’re going to invite as many coaches from various clubs as possible and who knows, some of the boys might get noticed and end up playing professional football,” said Nyoni.
