THE Premier Soccer League have flexed their muscle and come down hard on Yadah Stars executive Spencer Muvadi, handing the Harare businessman a hefty fine and a year’s ban from the top-flight’s activities.
Muvadi was found guilty by a PSL disciplinary committee on Tuesday and was slapped with a US$4 000 fine and barred from attending any Premiership matches or holding any administrative post in the league for 12 months.
This follows Muvadi’s diabolical act in which, in a fit of rage, he assaulted Yadah goalkeeper Godknows Gurure following the team’s defeat by Ngezi Platinum Stars at The Heart stadium on August 22.
Muvadi’s punishment is two-fold.
He is immediately barred from attending any PSL-sanctioned match for one year and is prohibited from conducting any football-related business for Yadah or any other league club during the same period.
This effectively suspends him from all official functions within the top-flight.
Apart from the US$4 000 fine, Muvadi was ordered to pay the costs of the disciplinary hearing.
Yadah, who are fighting relegation were not spared either.
In a statement ruling that underscores the PSL’s disdain for violent conduct, Yadah were found guilty of contravening the league’s regulations through the actions of their accredited official.
The club was fined US$5 000 and directed to pay the penalty within 15 days of the delivery of the ruling.
PSL communications and media liaison officer, Kudzai Bare confirmed the verdict and said in a statement that Muvadi had been “found guilty of breaching the PSL Rules and Regulations.”
“The sanctions are effective immediately.
“As PSL we are committed to upholding discipline, protecting the integrity of the game, and promoting a safe and professional environment for all participants,’’ Bare said.
Muvadi’s conduct also raised questions on whether Yadah have a safeguarding officer at the club, given that Gurure was assaulted in the club’s dressing room and in front of his teammates and coaches.
