PSL stars bag endorsement deals

IN a league where endorsement deals are hard to come by, the pair of ZPC Kariba playmaker Tinotenda Chiunye and CAPS United left-back Innocent Zambezi could strike gold after a transport company, BG Sniper Logistics, hinted they are taking the duo on board.

Chiunye has been making waves at the Kariba team until three weeks ago when he briefly left for trials in Botswana.

He is back at the team he helped survive relegation last season but has not seen much game time in the last three games.

But there is no denying his capabilities as each time he plays, ZPC Kariba’s attacking threat would be evident.

On the other hand, Zambezi is enjoying his place under the sun in his debut season with Makepekepe.

The 26-year-old has been phenomenal under Lloyd Chitembwe’s tutelage since his move from relegated Harare City.

He has been one of the best performers for the Green Machine, who are doing well in a season they are pushing for their first league title in seven years.

And the heavens may just have smiled on the two players after BG Sniper Logistics boss Parkston Choto announced his company will go to bed with Chiunye and Zambezi.

“Yes, we have been scanning around as BG Sniper Logistics, looking for players whom we can be associated with in the Premier Soccer League.

“As things stand, we would be settling for ZPC Kariba midfielder Tinotenda Chiunye and Innocent Zambezi of CAPS United,” said Choto.

“These are players who we have been tracking for a long time now and we are satisfied with their disciplinary records and their influence in the communities they live in.

“We are now making consultations with the relevant authorities before we officially seal the deal. We have done what we were supposed to do in terms of checking the players’ statuses.

“We are satisfied from our end but there are procedures which are supposed to be followed and that is what we are doing right now. Just after all the boxes are ticked, we will officially unveil the deals.

“This will be the beginning of our entry into professional sport. Right now we sponsor social football tournaments with the aim of giving everyone an opportunity to earn from playing the game”.

Chiunye and Zambezi will join former Dynamos captain Marshal Machazane as the only three players who have had endorsement deals in the top-flight for the past five years.

Machazane, a fitness fanatic in his own right, had a personal deal with PPC Cement in 2018 when he was still playing for the Glamour Boys.

BG Sniper Logistics first made their entry into football through sponsoring social football and netball tournaments throughout Mashonaland East last year.

Some players like Harare City goalkeeper Allan Masaya and ZPC Kariba target Tafadzwa Kandiyado are some of the products from this tournament series whose next edition will be staged at Wedza Centre on July 2.
