PSL title within DeMbare’s reach — Jalai

DYNAMOS full-back Emmanuel Jalai says the Premiership title is still well within the Glamour Boys’ reach provided they retain maximum focus going into the last 15 games of the season.

DeMbare posted an impressive 2-0 win over Sheasham at Bata Stadium on Sunday thanks to Jayden Bakare and Eli Ilunga’s strikes in either half of the exciting encounter.

The Harare giants though remained nine points behind log leaders Highlanders after the latter squeezed a 1-0 win over lowly Black Rhinos at Barbourfields on the same day.

But with 45 points still on offer, Jalai, who is one of the most consistent players in the league this season, said the former champions stand a chance to win the league at the end of the year.

“We haven’t done what we were supposed to do. We dropped some points that we were supposed to pick. But all that doesn’t matter now.

“As a team, we have gelled beautifully now and everything is flowing. The spirit within the group is inspiring and we can only hope for the best,” said Jalai, who played a blinder on Sunday.

“We can only control what we can as a team. Right now there are three teams above us including leaders Highlanders, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Manica Diamonds.

“We should not be worried with how they would have done in their own matches. What we need to do is play good football, win matches and in those tough fixtures try to grind it out.

“At this level of the game, consistency is everything. We should concentrate on winning our own games and if we manage to do so, we stand a very good chance of winning the league title. Bosso are on top but they haven’t run away with anything as yet given there are still a massive 45 points to contest for. We will meet each of the clubs in the leading pack and you know what victory will do in terms of changing the structure at the top”.

The Dynamos vice-captain is the only player who has started all the matches for the Glamour Boys, who are currently under the interim mentorship of Genesis Mangombe following the suspension of head coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa earlier this month.

Mangombe has made it no secret that he wants Dynamos to play a passing game to entertain fans and win matches at the same time.

“We will identify some of the things that we need to improve as we go. You can see that we are trying to move the ball fast. We want the players to retain possession. We have to play, attack as a unit and defend as a unit,” said Mangombe.

“It’s all about possession football and I know they are going to understand what we are trying to do as we go.

“They will understand it in the long run. But I am happy with the intensity they are applying in this game. The players are also creating chances which are a very huge positive in terms of where we want to take the team.

“My boys are getting very confident and that is what we all want to see”.

The former Yadah coach has guided the Glamour Boys to two wins, beginning with the Chibuku Super Cup Round-of-16 victory over Simba Bhora and in the league on Sunday.

With the players walking with a spring in their step, Mangombe has warned them to guard against complacency.

“Players tend to be complacent when the team is winning. We have posted two good results and the focus should be on maintaining those standards.

“We should keep our eyes on the ball and make sure that we play with the competitiveness required in this league,” he said.
