THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Week Nine matches produced a total of 18 goals to take the season goal tally to 149.
It was a weekend that saw Bulawayo Chiefs unheralded striker, Never Rauzhi grab his fifth goal of the season when Amakhosi Amahle edged visiting Chegutu Pirates 1-0, in a match played at Luveve Stadium last Sunday.
Rauzhi is now tied on five goals with Highlanders striker, Lynoth Chikuhwa who was not able to find the back of the net when they thumped CAPS United 2-0 at Barbourfields Stadium.
“We are happy for the goal that Rauzhi scored for us. He keeps improving and he has to remain focused. It was a good win for us.
It was a good game and I’m happy we managed ourselves going forward,” said Bulawayo Chiefs assistant coach, Bekithemba Ndlovu.
The predatory Rauzhi got the all-important goal for Amakhosi Amahlale in 75th minute after he went airborne to nod home a cross from Miguel Feldman.
While Highlanders moved two points clear at the top, their other striker Brighton “ManiNja” Ncube remained glued on four goals. Bosso have amassed 18 points from a possible 27, which puts them on 67 percent success rate.
Yadah Stars’ Khama Billiat scored the fourth brace of the season when they beat Chicken Inn 2-1 at the Heart Stadium. It was a match that saw Brendon Rendo score his first goal in Gamecocks colours.
Billiat, a former Warriors poster boy scored two penalties to take to 10 the number of goals scored from the spot this season.
Seven players are in the three-goal bracket. These are Billiat, Michael Charamba (Chicken Inn), Jaun Mutudza ( FC Platinum), Donald Ngoma (Green Fuel) Michael Tapera (Manica Diamonds), Walter Musona ( Simba Bhora), Tymon Machope ( Simba Bhora).
Five clubs –Highlanders, Manica Diamonds, Bulawayo Chiefs , Greenfuel and Yadah Stars all produced home wins after accounting for CAPS United, FC Platinum, Chegutu Pirates, Greenfuel, Chicken Inn respectively.
Makepekepe, FC Platinum, Chegutu Pirates, Arenel Movers, ZPC Kariba and Bikita Minerals are the six outfits that failed to score over the weekend, with three matches (Dynamos 2-2 Ngezi Platinum, Hwange 1-1 Herentals, Simba Bhora 1-1 TelOne, ZPC Kariba 0-0 Bikita Minerals) ending in stalemates.
Thirteen home goals were scored by Bosso, Manica Diamonds, Greenfuel, Yadah and Simba Bhora. Five away goals were scored by Ngezi Platinum Stars, Herentals, Chicken Inn and TelOne.
Two players Danny “Deco” Phiri of Chicken Inn and Leo Hofisi of TelOne got red cards during Matchday Nine action.
