SCOTTLAND goalkeeper Nelson Chadya says he is determined to break the Premier Soccer League’s all-time clean sheet record as he continues to play a key role in his side’s push for the league title.
The in-form shot-stopper has enjoyed a remarkable season and currently leads the Golden Glove race with 20 clean sheets from 27 league matches. Chadya has conceded just 10 goals throughout the campaign and has already equalled the clean sheet tally previously achieved by Benard Donavon.
With Scottland firmly in control at the top of the PSL standings on 57 points from 27 matches, Chadya has now set his sights on etching his name into the league’s history books.
“My aim is to keep, as many possible clean sheets this season. I know it is difficult but we still have matches to play and barring injuries or suspensions, I know it’s doable,” said Chadya.
Despite his outstanding individual performances, Chadya was quick to credit his teammates and coaching staff for helping him reach the milestone.
“All the credit goes to my teammates and my coaches who are always on the spot drilling us as a team and giving us all the guidance, on and off the field of play. It is my hope that I play my role distinctly and help my team achieve set objectives,” he said.
The goalkeeper’s rise to prominence has been built on consistency, patience and hard work. His ability between the posts has made him one of the league’s most reliable goalkeepers, a reputation that was recognised in 2022 when he was named the PSL Goalkeeper of the Year after recording 19 clean sheets.
While the race for the Golden Glove remains an important personal target, Chadya insists his main focus is helping Scottland achieve success as a team.
“It’s all about collective success and trying to help the team win its second title.”
Scottland’s next assignment is expected to be a stern test against an FC Platinum side that appears rejuvenated under newly appointed coach Thabo Senong.
The Zvishavane-based side will be eager to showcase its quality against the league leaders and potentially dent Scottland’s title charge.
For Chadya, however, achievements at club level are only part of a bigger dream.
The goalkeeper hopes his impressive performances this season will eventually earn him a place in the Warriors setup.
“My dream is to become part of the Warriors. I believe, with hard work and discipline, it is something achievable,” said Chadya.
With Scottland closing in on the championship and Chadya edging closer to a historic clean sheet record, the goalkeeper has every reason to believe that both his club and international ambitions remain within reach.
