Former Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare and former Member of Parliament for Mbare Dr Edward Munatsireyi Pswarayi who died in the capital on Sunday was not declared a liberation war hero as earlier reported.
Zanu-PF national spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo last night clarified his earlier statement, saying Dr Pswarayi would instead receive a State-assisted funeral.
“It is a State assisted funeral, not liberation war hero as I stated yesterday,” said Cde Gumbo.
Meanwhile, Air Marshal (Retired) Henry Muchena sent his condolence to the Pswarayi family.
He said Dr Pswarayi’s contribution to the liberation struggle would forever remain etched in the history books.
“He contributed immensely to the struggle,” Air Marshal Muchena said.
“I first met him in 1976 in Machingambi-Harava in Zaka when he came to the battle front to deliver medical supplies.
“A number of our comrades had been injured during combat and the late Dr Simon Mazorodze brought Dr Pswarayi and the late Dr Oliver Munyaradzi and would treat the wounded comrades.”
Air Marshall Muchena said he again met Dr Pswarayi a year later in Bikita when he and the late Cde Muza brought medical supplies.
This time, he said, they were accompanied by the late Rodgers Nyandoro, who was schools supervisor.
Dr Pswarayi will be buried at his farm in Beatrice today
