THE Public Service Commission has completed the Public Service Retirement Planning Policy, a major step towards institutionalising retirement preparedness among public sector workers.
Speaking today at the third edition of the Public Service Commission Retirement Conference, Public Service Commissions chairman, Dr Vincent Hungwe, said the policy provides a comprehensive framework for ensuring public servants prepare adequately for life after formal employment.
Dr Hungwe said the policy was one of the major milestones being presented at this year’s conference.
“One of the major milestones that we are proud to present at this conference is the completion of the Public Service Retirement Planning Policy,” he said.
He said the policy would clarify the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in supporting public servants throughout their careers.
He also stated that the policy takes a holistic approach to retirement planning, covering financial preparedness, asset ownership, health and security, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning and social integration.
Dr Hungwe said retirement planning had now become an important part of human capital management in the public service.
He said the Commission established a dedicated Retirement Planning Department to coordinate retirement preparedness programmes across Government ministries, departments and agencies.
“The programmes helped thousands of public servants access training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, investment, health and wellness and post-retirement planning,” he said.
