ALL is now set for the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) annual general meeting which is set for Gweru today. The annual general meeting will discuss among other issues, the discipline’s participation at this year’s All-Africa Games which will be held in Congo-Brazaville in September.
ZBF secretary-general Goodwill Sibanda said the meeting will also come up with a calendar of events for the year.
He said: “We are holding our annual general meeting where issues such as financial statements of the federation will be tabled. We will review our developmental programmes for last year as we seek to come up with the new programme of action for this year.
“We will also come up with a calendar of events for this year as well as the criteria for the selection of boxers who will represent the country at this year’s All-Africa Games to be held in Brazzaville in Congo in September.”
The meeting is also expected to review the discipline’s performance during the Zone Six Africa Region 5 Youth Games which were held in Bulawayo in December.
Boxing managed to amass a total of five medals.
Sibanda said with such a performance, the glory days in the sport were back.
“We are happy with our performance at the Youth Games which we hosted in December and judging by the number of medals that the sport managed to come up with, we are on the right track of reviving the sport.
“As a federation we will use the games as a launch pad to revive the sport. This shows that there is a lot of boxing talent in the youngsters hence we will focus more on grassroots youth development,”
