THE dusty Emadonkini Grounds in Pumula South were transformed into a theatre of dreams on Sunday as the New Era Films Under‑11 Football Tournament brought together five spirited teams in a celebration of grassroots football.
Local favourites Pumula South Gunners FC stole the show, clinching the gold medal and a brand‑new kit after a string of commanding performances that left the crowd buzzing. Their triumph was the highlight of a day filled with youthful energy, skill, and community pride.
The competition featured PSG FC, Thandanani FC, Pumula Celtic FC, Toronto FC, and Oxford FC, each determined to leave their mark. While the Gunners lifted the trophy, other sides also walked away with recognition.
Thandanani FC walked away with silver medals, bibs and a soccer ball, while Pumula Celtic FC earned bronze medals and two balls. Both Toronto FC and Oxford FC were each rewarded with a ball, ensuring that every side left Emadonkini Grounds with something to show for their participation.
Individual brilliance did not go unnoticed, with Bonginkosi Sithole walking away as the tournament’s top goal scorer, Quinton Khuphe earning the accolade of goalkeeper of the tournament, and Blessing Ndlovu being crowned the overall player of the tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the day.
A New Era Films spokesperson Siphiwe Dube hailed the event as a resounding success.
“What we witnessed today was pure passion. These children played with heart, discipline, and joy. For us at New Era Films, it’s not just about football, it’s about giving youngsters a platform to dream and grow.”
Dube emphasised the company’s commitment to grassroots sport.
“We are proud to support communities like Pumula South. This tournament is the beginning of something bigger. Next year, we want to bring in more teams, more prizes, and continue building a culture where talent is nurtured from the ground up.”
Parents, neighbours, and football lovers packed the sidelines, cheering every tackle, save, and goal. The atmosphere was electric, with the Emadonkini Grounds echoing to the sound of cheers and laughter.
For the young Gunners, lifting the trophy was more than just victory – it was a statement of promise. And for Pumula South, the tournament was proof that football remains the heartbeat of the community.
