Pumula South spear killer appears in court

A 48-year-old man from Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo who allegedly stabbed another man with a spear on the left side of the chest leading to his death following a misunderstanding appeared in court yesterday.

Nhlanhla Moyo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of murder and was remanded in custody to May 27.

Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete said that on March 10, 2026, at house number 21668, Pumula South, the accused person had a misunderstanding with the now deceased, Tatenda Mashave.

Following the altercation between the two, the accused person allegedly took a spear and stabbed Mashave once on the left side of the chest in the presence of Ibanathi Moyo.

The court heard that Mashave sustained a stab wound on the chest and was ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital where, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead.

A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person, said Mr Dzimbanhete.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Bulawayo man also appeared in court charged with attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted a complainant with a brick once on the head.

Michael Mureri of Pumula Old appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate, Mr Pasipanodya Maturure, and was remanded in custody to May 22.

Prosecutor, Ms Melissa Dube, said the complainant and the accused person are not related. She told how on April 18, 2026, at around 11 PM at Pumula Old Shops, the accused person assaulted Ian Zulu (27) with a brick once on the head following a misunderstanding. The complainant was rushed to hospital for medical attention, she said. A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
