THERE was drama in Pumula when police arrested two women suspected of dealing in drugs, recovering 340 grammes of mbanje in the process.

Sources close to the investigation say the pair could be small players in a bigger drug and substance abuse ring operating in Bulawayo’s western suburbs.

The suspects were caught in a sting operation by undercover officers posing as customers.
“We confirm that arrests have been made on suspects, female, that were found in possession of dagga for the purposes of selling. Our teams are on red alert and we expect more arrests soon,” said Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.

She added that the bust was made possible thanks to public tip-offs.
“As police we appreciate the tip-offs we continue to receive from members of the public and we urge them to continue with such vital information which will eventually lead us to cracking the base of the bases,” she said.

Police believe more arrests are imminent as investigations continue to unravel the drug web tightening its grip on the city.
