A 17-year-old former Hlangabeza High School pupil was yesterday arraigned before a magistrate’s court for allegedly attempting to kill a schoolmate by striking him with a brick on the head. The boy, who committed the offence in 2012 while aged 15, also allegedly poured boiling water over the victim, 15, whom he suspected of stealing his pair of socks.

The teenager appeared before regional magistrate Mark Dzira facing one count of attempted murder and another of assault.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting the boy using a brick at around 6AM on April 2, 2012 but denied pouring boiling water on him.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody to October 20 after the state requested that the victim sees a neurologist to determine the extent of his head injuries as it is believed his skull cracked.

Prosecuting, Tinashe Dzipe said the victim has been suffering from epileptic seizures since the alleged assault.
Dzipe said the boy missed his pair of socks in the dormitory where he stayed with other pupils.

The teenager accused the complainant of having stolen the pair of socks.
A misunderstanding arose between them resulting in the juvenile hitting him on the head once with a brick.

The complainant was rushed to Nkayi Hospital and treated for the head injuries he sustained.
On June 19, 2012 at around 2.30AM while the boys were sleeping, the boy also poured boiling water on his victim who was asleep.

He sustained superficial burns and was treated at Nkayi Hospital.
