Pupil suspended after attacking teacher

Johannesburg — A Grade 8 pupil at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg has been suspended after allegedly assaulting a teacher on Wednesday.
Eyewitness News reported yesterday that the pupil is now facing a disciplinary hearing.
Sapa reported on Thursday that a cellphone video of the assault had gone viral.

It shows the pupil trying to grab what looks like a school bag from the teacher, and then hitting and kicking the teacher. He then throws a chair and a broom at the teacher, who walked out of the classroom.

The pupil’s classmates are heard encouraging the pupil to “get him”.

The Gauteng education department on Thursday condemned the assault, saying a team of senior officials had been sent to the school to ensure that immediate action is taken against the pupil, and to provide counselling to the teacher. The teacher was commended for remaining calm and not retaliating. — Sapa
